Install Jenkins Ubuntu Server 12.10




Jenkins Continuous Integration build server is a Server that is used in software development on an ongoing basis. Jenkins project starting from the Hudson project that was developed by Sun Microsystem. But since Oracle bought Sun Microsystem, start there is dispute about the status of the Hudson so that in the end Jenkins, born as a fork from the Hudson.

Installing Oracle JDK 6
An easy way to install JDK 6 version of Oracle is using Ubuntu PPA from WebUp8. Run the following commands to install the JDK 6: Oracle
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-java6-installer



If such a message is encountered when running the command first:
sudo: add-apt-repository: command not found

The possibility that message because the existence of the package yet software-properties-common
in Ubuntu. Install package software-properties-common in advance.
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common

Verify that Java is installed by running the command java -version in console.
java version "1.6.0_43"

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.14-b01, mixed mode)

Oracle's complete, JDK 6 has been successfully installed on server.

Installation Of Jenkins
The installation process of Jenkins in Ubuntu Server at 12 may follow the instructions documented in the documentation of Jenkins.

Add repository key Jenkins to the system.
wget -q -O - http://pkg.jenkins-ci.org/debian/jenkins-ci.org.key | sudo apt-key add -

Create a file reference to the repository Jenkins.
echo "deb http://pkg.jenkins-ci.org/debian binary/" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jenkins-ci-debian.list

Update index Ubuntu package and installation of Jenkins.
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install jerkins

Make sure everything is running smoothly until there are the following messages indicating Jenkins CI Server has been successfully installed and run for the first time.
* Starting Jenkins Continuous Integration Server jenkins                [ OK ]

The default port number to 8080, verification is Jenkins Jenkins who has been installed with access from the browser http://<jenkins-host>:8080


Jenkins was successfully accessed through the default port number.
